THE SYDER FOUNDATION

THE SYDER FOUNDATION IS A FAMILY FOUNDATION BASED IN BERKSHIRE, UK.

The Foundation awards grants throughout the year to registered charities working across a wide variety of charitable purposes.  In the financial year ending September 2025 the Foundation donated a total of £597,900.

LARGE GRANTS

In recent years, the Foundation has awarded approximately 20 large grants per year, with a focus on regional charities located in Berkshire, Hampshire and the surrounding counties.  Total large grants awarded annually are approximately £500,000.

SMALL GRANTS

The Foundation sets aside around £100k per year from which small awards of £2,000 may be made to charities located in Berkshire, Hampshire, Wiltshire and Oxfordshire only.

APPLICATION PROCESS FOR LARGE & SMALL GRANTS

The Syder Foundation donates exclusively to capital projects or items of equipment. Programmes and operational costs (including salaries) will not be considered for either large or small grants.

Should you wish to apply for a large or small grant please submit an application on no more than two sides of A4 and provide a copy of your latest accounts.   In your application please also provide i) your charity’s most recent income and expenditure ii) cost of raising funds annually and iii) the impact of your intended project.

There are no application deadlines; applications are assessed monthly. There is no need to get in touch to ask for the next meeting date. 

​

​National charities are unlikely to be funded.

​

​Please allow 24 months before re-applying following an unsuccessful application. Successful recipients should wait 12 months before re-applying.

​

Please note that The Syder Foundation only supports registered charities.  For example, it does not support Community Benefit Groups, Community Interest Companies, Community Amateur Sports Clubs etc.

1. Registered Charity Status

Is your organisation a registered charity?

  • Yes → Continue

  • No → You are not eligible to apply.
     

2. Geographic Location (All Grants)

Is the charity based within one of the following six counties: Berkshire, Hampshire, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire, Surrey or Buckinghamshire?

  • Yes → Continue

  • No → You are not eligible to apply.
     

3. Additional Location Requirement (Small Grants Only <£2k)

If applying for a Small Grant (<£2,000), is the charity located in Berkshire, Hampshire, Wiltshire or Oxfordshire?

  • Yes → Continue

  • No → You are not eligible to apply.
     

  • If applying for a Large Grant:

Continue (no additional location restriction).
 

4. Type of Project (Capital Only)

Is the charity applying for either a capital build/renovation project or item/s of equipment?

  • Yes → The charity is eligible to apply

  • No → The charity is not eligible to apply.

If you answered no to any of the above questions, please do not apply.

Should you have a project that fulfils the above criteria, applications on no more than two sides of A4 paper may be submitted along with a copy of the most recent annual accounts via email to syderfoundation@gmail.com
